MRSI – San Isidro de El General Airport

Nestled in the valley of the Southern Zone, just a few minutes from downtown San Isidro de El General and at the foot of the Talamanca range, this little strip is the closest you can fly to Cerro Chirripó. The short asphalt runway sits at 2,100 feet with rising terrain to the north and a noticeable uphill slope on rwy 03. Approaches demand solid pattern discipline and careful energy management — nothing extreme, but the kind of flying that rewards attention and a proper briefing rather than winging it.
At roughly 800 meters of asphalt, it’s a comfortable strip for light singles and twins: a Cessna 206, a Caravan or a Seneca can operate here with sensible margins, provided you respect the slope and the surrounding hills.
Beyond the runway, the scenery opens up into one of the most rewarding views in Costa Rica: the green folds of the Talamanca mountains, coffee plantations climbing the slopes, and on clear days the distant silhouette of Chirripó itself. Flying the pattern here is as much about the landscape as it is about the landing.
This X-Plane 12 scenery was built with custom-modeled objects and hand-crafted textures, moving past the generic look of default scenery to get you closer to what you’d actually find flying into Pérez Zeledón. Worth adding to the logbook.
